THEN YOU QUIT YOUR JOB

SHOW IT

What a crazy two weeks! Things are really starting to roll along. Where shall I begin? I've started shopping for the trip. You know, the whole works. The 80L backpack, the first aid kit, the sleeping bag, the tent, the mosquito repellent, the portable stove, the Lonely Planet guides to the different countries, the digital camera, the maps!

The Lonely Planet
An awesome resource for backpacking travellers!
Check out The Thorn Tree - it's freeeeeeee!

I quit my job at the TD Bank. That was the biggest string attaching me to the rat race. Now I'm gone. A Spanish-speaking gringo rat on his own. :) Working part-time at a bakery to pull in some extra coin. Tending bar on the weekends to make some more. I'm doing one last course at Concordia University before I leave and then - VAMOS! Planned date of departure is August 21st, 2002.

I've come to a certain conclusion. There's no way I'm experienced enough to do a trip this long and this complicated on a motorcycle (especially a 1982 model) all by myself. Since I failed the first road exam, I have to be accompanied by somebody on another bike. My last chance for riding alone rests on the 9th of August, when I'll attempt the road test again. Should I pass, I'm going to take the motorcycle from here to San Diego. There, I'll try and sell it for US$. A friend of mine, Shane, is going to join me on his Yamaha Virago 1000cc, and will come with me to Chicago... If I fail the test, then I'm going to Chicago anyways, and I'll Greyhound bus/hitch it all the way down from there.

Sounds kind of sketchy? So does a trip to South America, alone, with a backpack and no time frame. Live for the moment, right dudes? Go with the flow and see where the wind takes you.

That's what this site is supposed to be about. It's a showcase for people who have followed their dreams, lived life for the moment, and seized an opportunity, any opportunity when the occasion arose. So this site is for those people who have dreams but haven't yet followed them because they don't know how, or are too scared, or don't think they'll ever achieve them. Let other people's dreams be an inspiration to you so you can break away from the rat race too.

Live free or die, compadre!
