COMMERCE GAMES STUDENTS GO WILD
Posted:

From my parents' home in Dollard-des-Ormeaux (Montreal), Quebec, Canada

Another crazy Commerce weekend. Do these guys ever stop?

I had been invited to go to the John Molson Sports Marketing Pub Crawl on Friday night, but something told me I wouldn't want to miss any part of the Commerce Games Spirit Weekend. Especially since there was a full moon.

The crew from the International Business Team (Chantal Beaudoin, Myles Hiscock, and myself) headed up together on Friday night. Our carload was rounded out with Jean-Philippe Brisebois, a party-minded Finance major and roommate with Myles.

Sweet tunes by Bob Marley, and Cypress Hill kept us in party mode on the drive up. We stayed at the Chanteclair Chalets in Ste-Agathe-des-Monts, and Chantal was particularly impressed with the quality of the accommodations. We were set up with cable TV, a Jacuzzi, a sauna, and all the appliances and amenities you could think of (except for a damn broom).

Most of the early arrivals were half-naked playing Strip Poker when we showed up. Did you guys spend the entire afternoon and evening drinking before we even arrived? Eric Blanchette (Entrepreneurship & JMCC Prez) - did you polish off that bottle of vodka you were dancing with? :)

This one crazy lunatic wearing a Burger King crown ... yeah - Dustin Ciarla. Man you were getting loopy...! And one couple left a sock on the door to make sure we knew which room was theirs. Jalal (last year's JMCC Prez) wanted to check just to make sure.

My funnel made its presence known in the Sports Chalet -  somehow taking my shirt off seemed to make the beer go down easier. I was competing against this dude from the Sports Team (was it Mike?). He kept calling me Sunshine from "Remember the Titans". Somehow I managed to successfully take all the beer in. I once tried to show Georgia Melonas (ICBC) how to funnel and instead spilled the entire beer all over myself - that was at the UBG house party in September.

Other Concordia Photos here!

Some good cocktails were served up by the pretty blondes from the Sports-Soccer team. What were they - Amaretto and what? Did you see Superman mackin' all the ladies? That's Jonah Lempogo (Sports & JMAS). My bruthah - too bad you couldn't stay for the whole weekend! And for those of you who missed it - Mike Wu was giving swimming lessons in the lake.

There was also a cool non-Concordia crew throwing their own little bash. A few pretty Italian ladies (Sabina & Sabina, Julia) with their buddies George and François. Dustin, Chantal, and I were representing over there. These ladies were dancing all over the map! They served up a delish dish of pineapple soaked in vodka, kept us moving with fruity shooters and cold Corona. And to top it all off, they had a roaring fire going with a killer atmosphere. Imagine that one of our group thought their chalet was his crib. Louis-Eric walked right in, sat down on the couch and started watching TV. He was clueless till Sabina set him straight. :) Can you say JUICY JUICY SUKI SUKI MANGO?

After some hardcore partying on Friday, morning finally rolled around, to the chagrin of many (whether it was due to the embarrassing antics from the night before or a wicked hangover). Eric Aintabi, Nicholas Bell, Elsa Leconte (all from the Tax Team), Sarah Beaumier (Marketing), Aaron Benshabat (ICBC) and Michael Rosenfeld (Finance) made an appearance. They'd barely arrived before a group of about 15 of us decided to head to town for breakfast. It was almost a no-go, Eric's ride was spinning on the ice. Rear-wheel drive and summer tires are a horrible combo ... but we finally got him out.

Saturday was a cool day. I went for a walk around the lake with my Egyptian beer (Hek and a salted lime) and nearly froze my ass off. Would you believe I actually reviewed a case? The neighbourhood is calm, and many homes are secluded in small groves of trees. There was a bit of a breeze and the cold air was good to clear my head. I found a hidden spot off the road, with a wooden path down to the edge of the water. Moments of solitude in the middle of craziness are a wicked way to just step back. You can almost make time stop for a few moments. It gave me a chance to reflect on how large the world is, and how small individuals are in comparison. It hits home though that you can accomplish almost anything you want if you set your mind to it, and the only thing stopping you is you. Carpe Diem, right?

There was one crew playing football when I returned, and another watching the Concordia-Laval provincial champs. We got our asses whipped. Final score: 59 to 7 for Laval.

Saturday night was slightly subdued. Many left early to head back to Montreal, or were so trashed from Friday that the collective energy was sapped. A few enthusiasts colluded to topple Georgia Melonas - they're planning on making t-shirts? Did you snap any Before/After photos of Lana Bukvic (Academic Alternate)? Tania Konczynski (JMCC Exec) - you have an infectious smile!

There were some gung-ho card-players in the house. I sent Vishal packing in a game of Asshole, and I heard Michael Marcotte (Academic Alternate) cleaned up in Blackjack. A bottle of Canadian Club was being passed around - who brought that sweet elixir? Oh - and check out the whack photo of Luigi in his leopard housecoat.

Did everyone get a chance to see the lunar eclipse? I was chilling on the dock by the lake with Mireille Signori (Entrepreneurship) and Isabel Chan (ICBC). The moon went from shining bright white to a strange shade of grey-red. At the culmination of the show, four loons almost went unnoticed as they swam past the dock. Good eye - Mireille! And why won't anyone believe I saw a UFO? :)

Why does the moon shine so bright?

Myles - thanks for the ride up and the ride back
Eric - I still owe you a hot dog, haha
Dustin - you the man
Mireille - thanks for finding my wallet
Jalal - props to you bro for the chill music at the IBIZ chalet
Sabina and crew -  your smiles and your grub kept me in tip-top shape
Thanks to the execs at JMCC for making it all happen.

By the way - did you know that Myles played the bagpipes as a child?
