MY FAITH IS WITH COLOMBIA

This evening, I will get on a bus and travel for ten hours from the city of Medellín to the small Caribbean coastal town of Tolú.  Some people (mostly foreigners - extranjeros) say Colombia is dangerous and that I shouldn't travel by bus here.  I believe it's safe.  I've travelled by bus to some of the major cities (and some rural areas), and nothing bad or frightening has ever happened to me.  The picture above is from my trip to Tolú and Coveñas during Easter Week 2003.  I met a soldier on the beach who let me hold his rifle!

Anyway, this is a holiday weekend and I'm in a foreign country.  I want to explore it.  I want to know it.  I'm only here for 8 weeks and a long weekend only happens once in a blue moon (actually, in Colombia it happens twice in a row!).   Since I can't afford to take the plane and I refuse to pass up an opportunity to spend a weekend on a beautiful beach, I'll have to take advantage of - aprovechar - this opportunity.  I'll put my faith in Colombia.
