hey ryan - if you can keep a secret... here goes - i am in california right now. i'm in palm springs, about 2 hours inland from los angeles. i got to la on tuesday and i flew here on my friend jay's air miles plan. i stayed with friends in los angeles and also here in palm springs. i know why you are so attracted to this place. i don't blame you - it is like nothing else on earth. the thought of moving here has been a distinct possibility for me for sometime now and the success of these new drugs i'm on makes me think it may happen someday soon. i'm struggling to survive in new york. i can do the same thing or better here i guess. it's just that i don't drive and i don't have any money and i don't have a job etc... these are all problems i haven't confronted in a long time because i bought into the line that everyone else thought about me - that i was going to get sick soon. well it's not happening and even if does one day i've still got to get on with my life and follow my dreams. i have such good friends here. this is the first trip i've been on where i was totally looked after - i mean picked up at the airport, taken out to lunch, etc... it's like my friends here really like me and think i'm worth it and want to bet on my future. it's a really good feeling. but it's such a big leap. i know new york. i have a history there. a new family of friends and people and contacts... it's a tough call. it's difficult to find someone who i can live with. someone who understands me and isn't a dickhead. someone who is cool about jenny. she is very special to me. she is like my baby. so i thought if i moved back to montreal for six months or a year to get my head together i might need a roommate. i thought of you. that's what i meant by that. as far as your own future goes, think long and hard about university. it can be a wonderful time of your life. it's a great place to learn to think. forget about exactly what the degree is in - it's the environment that will give you the tools for the rest of your life. just three or four years of thinking, playing and living. you'll meet people, date some real women, flex your mind. the fact is montreal is a great place to do this. concordia and mcgill are terrific places and they're in a great, very stimulating city. don't forget the tuition is about 10 percent of what you would pay in the states and the quality is the same or better. they are full of american students too. people from all around the world. it will cause you to open your mind and you'll make contacts that will last a lifetime. university is a great place ryan. if you can do it, get yourself a basic bachelor's degree. take courses in a wide variety of things that interest you and you'll see - you'll begin to understand what you can do with your mind and you'll stretch the limits of who you are and where you want to go.
i'm saying these things because i love you and i've been through a
lot. trust me on these matters. if you let a few years go by it won't be the
same. now is the time to learn... seize the day.
