COMMENT
ON GRAND PRIX WEEKEND IN MONTREAL

what a crazy weekend! there was a party in
every corner of Montreal! owing to the Canadian Grand Prix, World Cup
soccer, and the Tyson fight, everybody's adrenaline was in overdrive. oh,
and the women! so many and so beautiful! This is Montreal's real claim to
fame, the female side of our multi-ethnic population.
The places to be this weekend were Newtown and Thursday's, both on Crescent,
almost opposite from each other. For those who don't know, Newtown is
car-racer Jacques Villeneuve's own bar, named for the English translation of
his surname. Some say to spite authorities from the Office de la Langue Française.
In any case, I didn't see him last night, but several did. I'm surprised
he'd show up given the poor showing in the race, adding to four DNF's in
five years. Our city seems to have a love affair with underdog sports icons.
